9 of the coolest cafés in Barcelona

Musement takes a look at nine of the coolest cafés in the Catalan capital where you can get a caffeine fix any time of the day.

These cafés in Barcelona are known for specialty coffee, contemporary eats, a well-cared-for space, good vibes…and wifi. Does it get any better than that? We don’t think so.

Not all of the original places fit on this list, but all that are on this list are original. Here’s a look at nine adorable cafés in Barcelona to satisfy all of your coffee cravings.

1. Espai Joliu

Plants and coffee have never lived in such harmony. Espai Joliu is a plant concept store that you can visit in the Poblenou neighborhood to buy beautiful plants, magazines or sit and work on your laptop while trying a piece of vegan chocolate cake or a latte prepared with love. The retro style gives this place character and distinguishes it from conventional cafés.

2. Café Cometa

Located on one of the hippest streets of the Sant Antoni neighborhood, Café Cometa will welcome you with open arms any time of day from breakfast to happy hour. The minimalist decor emulates the comfort of home. With healthy food made with local ingredients, you won’t have (as much) trouble sticking with your diet.
Carrer del Parlament, 20

3. The Juice House

Looking for a new Sunday brunch spot? The Juice House won’t let you down. Its international, flexitarian menu of healthy foods isn’t lacking in pancakes or the legendary avocado toast. It’s all very millennial. The best part? Their healthy juices and smoothies will heal the body after a Saturday night out.

4. Granja Petitbo

A former cow barn has been converted into a beautiful café called Granja Petitbo. With a cozy atmosphere thanks to its carefully chosen aesthetic–we love the industrial touch–, this place will grab your attention as you walk along the Passeig de Sant Joan. Sit down and snack on some homemade or start your day with some eggs Benedict for breakfast. The choices are somewhat limited, but you won’t be disappointed.

5. Nomad Everyday

The small coffee empire Nomad was founded relatively recently by Jordi Mestres, a Catalonia native who returned to Barcelona after living in London where he discovered specialty coffee. Mestres successfully imported what he learned and it has since materialized into a business model that includes a café, food truck, Roasters Home (where they roast coffee beans), school, and sales (wholesale and retail). Nomad Everyday is Nomad’s small, yet delightful café.
Carrer de Joaquín Costa, 26

6. Itacate

The Eixample Esquerra district of Barcelona is home to Itacate, a cool café with a relaxed atmosphere that can easily turn into a long urban refuge. Itacate offers healthy options like juices, smoothies, and kombucha. The kitchen is open all day long.
Carrer del Comte Borrell, 107

7. Roast Club Café

We want to highlight three things about the Roast Club Café: how nice their Italian barista is, the excellence of their coffee preparation and the irresistible sweets–the chocolate and hazelnut cookie is out of this world!. They also have sandwiches and other savory options. The coffee machine, however, is undisputedly the most important character here. The only “but” is that the place is a bit small.
Carrer de València, 143

8. Ugot

When we saw the vintage floral porcelain mugs, we knew we were in good hands. In essence, you will feel like you are in your grandmother’s dining room with retro sofas and that comfort you feel when you taste a homemade cake. The irresistible selection on display makes it difficult to decide which one to order. This place is ideal for having a leisurely snack in the company of a good book.
Carrer de Viladomat, 138

9. Little Fern Café

One of the latest additions to the Poblenou neighborhood is Little Fern Café, the brainchild of a Hungarian and a New Zealander. This charming little café reflects their roots and passions in a space full of natural light and clean lines. Exceptional specialty coffee and carefully presented brunch plates await you.
Carrer de Pere IV, 168
