From the old-fashioned charm of New Orleans to the je ne sais quoi of Paris, Musement takes a look at where to travel this Easter.
This year, Easter falls on Sunday, April 12. For some, Easter is a time to celebrate beliefs while for others, it is the time to celebrate the spring blossoms, chocolate eggs and fluffy bunnies that accompany the rejuvenating season. Whatever it may be, you’ll find a reason to celebrate in one of these five cities.
1. New Orleans
Let the good times roll in New Orleans this Easter. Join the Big Easy’s exciting holiday celebration by attending Mass at the majestic St. Louis Cathedral then enjoy the parade in the historic French Quarter which begins at 1.00pm. Other festivities include an epic Easter Egg Egg Scramble at City Park, where kids can serch for colorful eggs, including ‘gold’ ones that have special surprises inside! End your fun-filled morning with brunch in the French quarter at one of the incredible locales like Galatoire’s, Emeril’s or Bourbon House.
2. Jerusalem
As the backdrop for Easter’s symbolic beginnings, Jerusalem is the perfect place to celebrate the holiday. The city’s iconic Easter events include the Good Friday Procession when thousands of Christian pilgrims march along the Via Dolorosa in the Old City’s Christian Quarter. Food lovers won’t want to miss the Machane Yehuda Market when they’re in town, which is home to plenty of great eats and drinks, including the restaurant Machneyuda.
3. Paris
A wonderful destination for the holiday, Paris has something for every member of the family, from the magic of Disneyland Paris to arts and culture at the Louvre to the iconic Eiffel Tower to colorfully delicious macarons from Pierre Hermé and much more. Treat yourself to a ‘chocolate shop hop’ and visit the city’s many chocolatiers, such as Henri Le Roux, the genius who invented salted caramel. If you feel like getting out of the city, take a trip to Provins, a majestic medieval town, a 90-minute train ride from Paris that hosts an Easter egg hunt free of charge for children. Explore the beautiful town while searching for the 8,000 colorful hidden treasures.
4. New York
Leave it to New York to take holiday festivities to another level. Each spring, the city turns into a giant Easter-themed playground with plenty of events to choose from! Attend the Easter Parade and Bonnet Festival on Easter Sunday where you can see hundreds of hilariously creative Easter-themed hat designs–be sure to arrive early and position yourself at St. Patrick’s Cathedral for the best view. Who said Easter egg hunts were just for kids? Gather your best team and join the Amazing Easter Egg Scavenger Hunt for adults! Put on your detective hats and solve clues and challenges with your team. Each member of the winning team gets an NYC Gift Package!
5. Orlando
There is no better way to celebrate such a magical time of year than at the most magical place of them all: Disney World. Take the little ones to the Magic Kingdom to meet Mr. and Mrs. Easter Bunny. They’ll be joined by dancing flowers and hippos as well as other fun springtime characters during the Easter Procession. Finally, take part in the Epcot Egg-Stravaganza Easter Egg Hunt, a Disney-themed Easter egg hunt that is fun for the whole family!
