7 of the world’s most spiritual places

In need of a miracle? Here are seven spiritual destinations where you can raise your vibration.

If you’re not superstitious or don’t believe in the evil eye, the healing power of places and objects, or miracles at all, then you can just go back to what you were doing. But if you do believe in these things, carry a lucky charm at all times, or feel nervous about sharing every good thing that happens in your life on social media in case someone’s envy sends some negative energy your way, here are seven spiritual places to keep in mind for your next journey. In these destinations, miracles and healings are a part of everyday life.

1. Lourdes, France

Perhaps the number one miracle-working spot in the world. Every year, millions of Catholic pilgrims from all over the world travel here to drink from—or even just touch—the water from the spring in the Grotto of Massabielle, where the Virgin Mary appeared in 1858. Through the centuries, the water in Lourdes has cured blindness, tuberculosis and paraplegia. The latest attested miracle dates from 2008: the healing of Sister Bernadette Moriau, who was suffering from a severe form of Cauda Equina Syndrome.

2. Machu Picchu, Peru

Machu Picchu is one of the world’s most incredible places, often appearing on all sorts of once-in-a-lifetime travel round-ups. This extraordinary, important historical site also possesses an intriguing esoteric side: the Intihuatana is a massive carved stone in the highest part of the residential area that was used to map out the course of the sun, marking its position during the two equinoxes with the highest precision. It’s said that if you place your head against this stone, you will manage to reach a higher level of knowledge and consciousness.

3. Ayers Rock, Uluru, Australia

Next up is a place far off in the Outback: Ayers Rock. It is said that this spectacular rocky formation hosts a vortex of energy created by the Aboriginal divinities as they were shaping the continent’s landscape. Just like Machu Picchu, visitors from all over the world travel to this complex stone in the hopes of absorbing some of the energy trapped within the rocks.

4. Cliffside Hot Springs at Esalen, Big Sur, California

Since the dawn of time, people have believed that thermal waters possess healing properties, and for 6,000 years the cliffside hot springs at Esalen have been a destination for travelers seeking relief for their afflictions and pains. The Esselen Native American tribe, who consider this a sacred place, were the first to discover the healing powers of these hot springs.

5. Table Mountain, Cape Town, South Africa

Table Mountain in Cape Town is one of South Africa’s most beautiful places for hiking and trekking. It is said to also host one of the world’s most powerful energy vortexes that can change destinies and bring people up to a higher level of consciousness.

6. Medjugorje, Bosnia and Herzegovina

Medjugorje, a small town in the Narenta valley region of Herzegovina, is the destination for an enormous flow of Catholic pilgrims, who travel there because people say that the Virgin Mary herself sometimes appears on the Podbrdo mountain to reveal secrets and prophecies as well as to give the light of peace and knowledge to those who pray to her. However, the Catholic Church has officially been critical of these claimed apparitions.

7. Kusatsu Onsen, Japan

When it comes to waters with magical and healing properties, the waters of Kusatsu Onsen are said to be able to cure any illness…except for heartsickness. Since the seventeenth century, the ailing have been coming here to say a prayer at the temple then wash their heads and immersing themselves for three minutes in the 115-degree hot water. It would be quite extraordinary indeed if this ritual not only healed back pain and sinusitis but could also mend a broken heart.
