8 places to go glamping in America

From upstate New York to the Southwest, Musement takes a look at eight of the most idyllic places to go glamping in America.

Are you curious about camping, but don’t want to give up a real bed, indoor plumbing, and an electric coffeemaker? Then you should give glamping a try. Glamping, a portmanteau that combines glamorous and camping is a popular way to enjoy the great outdoors and the equally great indoors. Glamping camps, ranches, and resorts are popping up all over the country. Here are eight of our favorites:

1. Conestoga Ranch

Hit the trail for a stay at the Conestoga Ranch in Garden City, Utah, where guests can bunk in custom-made Conestoga wagons. Perfect for couples or families with a pioneer spirit, this western-themed glamping resort outfits its accommodations with hotel quality amenities. Value-priced traditional tents and upscale tents that can fit up to six people are available in addition to the Conestoga wagons. The Grand Couples Tents, Grand Family Tents, and Royal Tent Suite have en-suite bathrooms, comfortable furnishings, and private campfire patios.

2. Wyoming Trout Ranch

The Wyoming Trout Ranch in Cody is a boutique glamping site on the banks of the Shoshone River with ten spacious teepees decorated inside and out with Native American patterns and designs. The teepees stand on platforms, each with its own BBQ grill and picnic table for outdoor dining. Comfortable beds covered in luxurious linens combined with the serene soundtrack of the Shoshone will lull you to sleep every night. Community shower and laundry facilities are clean and conveniently located. The ranch is also a popular fishing site where guests can try their hand at catching trout in the river or the on-site stocked pond.

3. Under Canvas

Whether you choose to stay in a safari-style tent or the private treehouse with views of the forest, you will have a glamping experience like no other at Under Canvas. Choose from accommodations with room for two to six guests, twin to king-sized beds, and en-suite bathrooms or access to the communal bathhouse. Wood-burning stoves and luxury linens will keep you and your traveling companions cozy at night at this secluded Montana retreat. Under Canvas also has locations in Arizona, Yellowstone Park, Moab, and more.

4. El Cosmico

El Cosmico in Marfa, Texas offers a variety of glamping accommodations including yurts, teepees, safari tents, and trailers. Connect with the cosmos as you sit outdoors in a wood-fired hot tub or connect to Wi-Fi in the community lounge. Hang out in the hammock grove and get to know your neighbors or relax on your deck and enjoy some solitude.

5. Camp Chama at Fishtail Ranch

Get off the grid at this glamping site near Chama, New Mexico. The all-inclusive experience at Camp Chama includes family-friendly activities for guests of all ages. Reconnect while fishing the waters of the Rio Bravos. Go horseback riding through the forest. Learn how to shoot a bow and arrow or go on a guided nature walk. Each of the covered safari-style tents comes with a queen-sized bed and a platform with outdoor seating.
