5 beach reads for summer 2017

Summer is here, and we’re looking forward to heading to the beach with a good book in tote. Here are five beach reads that we suggest for summer.

1. The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay by Micheal Chabon

Thrill-seekers will love Micheal Chabon’s The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay.  Told via wonderfully colorful descriptions, this novel features the mental imagery and fluctuating moods typical of a comic book.  Be transported from the beach to  New York City  in1939, a year characterized by both tragedy and triumph.  Follow the two protagonists as they navigate the dangerous era with sheer audacity….and a little bit of imagination.

2. The Princess Saves Herself in this One by Amanda Lovelace

An empowering book by Amanda Lovelace, The Princess Saves Herself in this One features a wonderful collection of cathartic poems that speak of the beauty and challenges of being a woman. This book is for modern feminists–men or women–who appreciate the efficacy of poetry in making us feel human. 3. The Zookeeper’s Wife by Diane Ackerman

This incredibly inspiring novel recounts the courage of  Dr. Jan Zabinski and his wife Antonina, owners of the Warsaw Zoo, who helped save the lives of 300 Polish Jews during the Nazi occupation. Based on Antonina’s real-life diary, you won’t be able to put The Zookeeper’s Wife down.

4. Into the Water by Paula Hawkins

This thrilling mystery novel by the author of  The Girl on the Train features a plotline that twists and turns,  gripping readers and submerging them in a haunting new world with a supernatural touch. Told from more than a dozen different perspectives, the suicide-turned-murder investigation takes so many twists and turns that you’ll find yourself having to remember to breathe. This compelling page-turner is the perfect beach read!
