With a track record of breaking world records, it comes as no surprise that Dubai is home to the world’s tallest observation wheel. Here, Musement explores everything you need to know about the Ain Dubai.
Ain Dubai, sometimes referred to as the Dubai Eye, is the world’s tallest observation wheel. After lengthy construction and covid delays, the Ain Dubai finally opened on October 21, 2021, to coincide with the postponed Expo 2020.
The Ain Dubai provides its riders with an unrivalled view of Dubai’s most iconic landmarks. The enormous wheel is located on Bluewaters Island, a vibrant lifestyle destination which offers retail, hospitality and entertainment options. And in case you didn’t know, the name, Ain Dubai, derives from the sixteenth letter in the Arabic alphabet (Ayn), which translates to eye in English.
Read on to discover everything you need to know about the Ain Dubai:
The world’s tallest observation wheel
The enormous observation wheel stands at over 250 metres tall, making it the world’s tallest Ferris wheel. The gigantic structure trumps the previous world record holder, the High Roller in Las Vegas, which stands at 167 metres tall. And it certainly blows the London Eye out the water, which only stands at 135 metres tall. In addition, this record-breaking landmark stands at over 200% taller than the world’s first ever Ferris wheel!

The engineering
A city built on innovation and imagination, it seems like nothing is too big or ambitious for the architects behind Dubai’s buildings. The project was developed by Meeras and was built at an estimated cost of AED 1 billion ($270m). An engineering marvel, the incredible masterpiece is said to be made from more than 9,000 tonnes of steel, which is 25% more than the amount used to build the Eiffel Tower in Paris. Each spoke is longer than a full-scale football pitch and the central wheel rim weighs as much as 16 Airbus 380 aircrafts.
