The Persian Gulf boasts golden-sand beaches and extravagant entertainment, and Abu Dhabi is a city of exuberance and fast cars. This year, one of the world’s richest cities is hosting the last Formula One World Championship race at the Yas Marina Circuit on the 25 November 2018.
The highest class of single-seater auto racing in the world, the Formula One Grand Prix is an adrenaline-filled event with a history and tradition of over one-hundred years. Its roots trace back to France where it got its name; ‘Grand Prix’ which means “grand prizes”. In 2018, The F1 season sees teams travelling around the world competing in Grand Prixs leading up to the final, from Australia and China to Monaco and Germany and many more. The world has been watching and the international fervor will culminate in the United Arab Emirates.
Each Formula One season is made up a series of races where experienced drivers race in practice sessions and qualifiers. Watch as Lewis Hamilton and rest of this year’s driver line-up compete for the 2018 Formula One World Championship. The final race is in Abu Dhabi at the Yas Marina Circuit with its impressive 60,000 spectator capacity and one of the world’s longest straight-aways of 1,173 meters (0.723 miles). Despite the long straight-away, this circuit is known to be a technical track that should provide viewers with an engaging race while drivers attempt to pass each other at speeds pushing 350 kph (217.48 mph).
Demonstrating the United Arab Emirates’ passion for design and innovation, the Yas Marina Circuit was designed by a driver and German engineer, Hermann Tilke in 2009. Said to be the most expensive circuit in history the track encompasses twenty-one corners and blazes a trail along the marina, past the Yas Hotel Abu Dhabi and winding its way through sand dunes. The purr of the turbocharged 1.6-litre V6 engines can be heard from across the archipelago. The Circuit also provides entertainment for the whole family with go-karting for adults, teenagers and children at Kartzone. Alongside the high-speed entertainment that comes with the internationally renowned F1 race, there are tons of exciting events and live concerts running parallel to the Grand Prix season finale. The Canadian R&B artist The Weeknd takes the stage on 23 November to perform Yasalam After-Race concert taking place du Arena on Yas Island, followed by Sam Smith on 24 November.
