Dubai’s music culture

Want to hear some fantastic new tunes along with some old faves in the UAE’s ‘city of gold’? Here’s a look at what’s happening on Dubai’s music front this year.

Get a dose of some musical medicine at the Dubai International Jazz festival. The sixteenth annual edition takes place 21-23 February, and the musical lineup is as fiery as a soulful saxophone solo. Despite its name, the Dubai International Jazz Festival is not only about jazz, but about great music, so you can expect fantastic performances by musical ‘legends’ from all backgrounds and genres such as Rock, Pop and Blues in addition to Jazz.

Dubai is a city of many faces and one of its expressions bolsters a keen sense for live entertainment. The Dubai International Jazz Festival has been a continuous world-renowned success for 16 years, growing in audience numbers each year thanks to the presence of well-known award-winning artists. This year’s impressive line-up includes Duran Duran, John Legend and Ricky Martin, and each artist will be paired with a jazz set performance. Check out the website for more information.

In addition, the pleasant February weather is the perfect backdrop for experiencing Dubai’s live music scene at its finest. Every night, there are a plethora of bars and a variety of concert venues to choose from. Whether you are interested in kicking back in a relaxed wooden-interior-style pub or swaying to the beat spun by a top DJ surrounded by colorful lasers, Dubai has it all. For some good old-fashioned Irish hospitality with traditional pub grub and live music, check out Fibber Magees, a ten-minute walk from the World Trade Centre metro stop. Dance into the wee hours of the morning alongside your favourite hits from the 80s, 90s and 2000s at the Stereo Arcade, or go for an all-around elegant musical experience at the famous MusicHall where you can choose from a range of nightly events that mix music genres such as Gipsy fusion via French and American pop, or salsa, Indian, Persian and many more. Complete your night out at MusicHall with delicious cocktails, dinner and your choice of an eccentric live show.

There’s always something to do in Dubai! For one, there are already a number of artists set to perform in Dubai this year, so no matter when you choose to explore this luxurious skyscraper city, there will be opportunities for music lovers to get their fix. The Chainsmokers and Ke$ha will perform 8-9 February at the RedFest DXB in the Media City Amphitheatre, and the unique pop-blues blend of Rag’n’Bone Man will serenade audiences on 23 March at the Dubai Opera.

If you travel to Dubai for the music, you will surely find yourself enjoying the entertainment, adventure, delectable cuisine and the jaw-dropping attractions such as the Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest and most iconic skyscraper!
