How to celebrate UAE National Day in Dubai

When compared to the rest of the world, the UAE is still rather young, having only been established on December 2, 1971. As the day of the country’s founding, it should come as no surprise that the date is a national holiday. This year, the country’s 48th birthday falls on a Monday, prolonging the weekend for locals and visitors alike.

Here’s a look at some of the festivities happening in Dubai over the course of those few days.

1. Fireworks

Such a patriotic day wouldn’t be complete without fireworks, and this year, there will be two nights of spectacles, December 1 and 2. The best places to catch a show? La Mer, Jumeirah Beach, Al Seef, the historical area tucked into the Dubai Creek, and Dubai Festival City.

3. Head to Abu Dhabi

The UAE Capital, Abu Dhabi has plenty of celebrations planned including an air show from 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm as well as fireworks at the Yas Marina Circuit where the Grand Prix takes place. Gastronomes won’t want to miss a Food Festival taking place at Khalifa Park from December 2-7.

4. Free entertainment

From November 29 to December 2, enjoy concerts at Le Mer, Al Seef and Global Village from a number of Emirati and other Middle Eastern musicians. In addition, from November 29 to December 3, most participating malls will be hosting bands who will set up so that customers can shop to the soundtrack of traditional UAE music.

5. Fun for the whole family

Let the kids take place in several interactive activities such as clay pot painting, face painting and arts and crafts at al Meraas locales: Bluewaters, La Mer, Al Seef, Box Park, City Walk, The Beach, Last Exit and The Outlet Village. November 29 to December 2
